Some buying activity is seen in realty sector, while telecom, metal, banking, consumer durables, IT and FMCG are showing weakness on BSE. The INDIA VIX is up 0.76% at 16.4525. Out of 1,771 stocks traded on the NSE, 629 declined, 669 advanced and 473 remained unchanged today.

The S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 25,618 down 259 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 7,859 down 41 points.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.04% at 11,226, whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.11% at 11,153.

Tata Motors, Asian Paints, Adani Ports, HDFC, Cipla, Axis Bank and NTPC are among the gainers, whereas Bharti Airtel, HUL, Dr.Reddy's, GAIL, ICICI Bank and Coal India are losing sheen on BSE.

A total of 29 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 14 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The Indian rupee opened lower by 16 paise at 66.78/$ against US Dollar on Thursday as against the previous close of 66.62/$. On the domestic front, India’s industrial output during March grew at a meager rate of 0.1% on yoy basis, a sharp fall in growth when compared with the reading of 2% during February. Capital goods witnessed an unexpected contraction of 15.4%, while mining activity declined by 0.1%. Manufacturing which contributes a major chunk of IIP, declined by 1.2%. Manufacturing activity for the entire FY2015‐16 grew at meager rate of 2%, when compared with the growth rate of 2.3% during previous year.

Manappuram Finance Ltd stock rallied by 17% at Rs. 49.05.The company posted a net profit of Rs. 1307.000 million for the Quarter ended March 31, 2016 as compared to Rs. 700.370 mn for the Quarter ended March 31, 2015.

Polaris Consulting & Services Ltd posted a net profit of Rs. 51.035 mn for the Quarter ended March 31, 2016 as compared to Rs. 370.851 mn for the Quarter ended March 31, 2015. Polaris Consulting & Services Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 190.9, down by Rs. 6.85 or 3.46% from its previous closing of Rs. 197.75 on the BSE.

Nestle India Ltd stock was up by 2% at Rs. 5814. The company reported standalone net profit of Rs.259 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2014, registering decline of 19.13% yoy, but growth of 41.38% qoq.

Bank of Maharashtra stock was down by 2% at Rs.29. The bank posted a net loss of Rs 119.84 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2016 due to rise in bad loans. Total income of the bank declined to Rs 3,566.68 crore in the January-March quarter, as against Rs 3,598.89 crore in the same period a year ago.

Havells India stock was higher by 4% at Rs. 354. The company is looking at growing the business both through organic and inorganic opportunities, Chairman and MD Anil Rai Gupta has been quoted as saying by a business daily.

Glenmark Pharma stock was up 1% at Rs.869. The company posted a net profit after taxes, minority interest and share of profit of associates of Rs.1714.86 mn for the quarter ended March 31, 2016.
