Stock Market Live - ICICI Bank drops 1.8% after block deal

ICICI Bank Ltd is currently trading at Rs 255.1, down by Rs 4.75 or 1.83% from its previous closing of Rs 259.85 on the BSE. Around 21.3 lakh shares were traded in a single block.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 0 % while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 65.5 % and 9.13 % respectively.

Sensex, Nifty trade flat; Tata Steel 2.65% up

The BSE 30-share barometer trades in the green on Wednesday. The gauge had gained 195.64 points in the previous session. Sectoral indices led by capital goods, metal and realty stocks were in the green. The NSE Nifty, too, is trading higher. Brokers said increased buying in select stocks coupled with covering-up of outstanding short positions ahead of the expiry had a positive impact. A firm trend on other Asian bourses following record closing at the US markets too influenced sentiments, they said.

1.00pm: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 52 points, or 0.20%, to 26,013, while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rises 14 points, or 0.17%, to 8,016. Tata Steel rises 2.65% to Rs388 at 1.05pm.  

12.33pm: DLF Ltd rose 3.24% to Rs 114.60 after huge block deal. Around 1.16 million equity shares of the company changed hands in a block deal. 

12.20pm: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 12 points, or 0.04%, to 26,972, while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rises 2.65 points, or 0.03%, to 8,005.  

12.05pm: Healthcare companies are trading higher. Lupin Ltd rose 0.9%, Cipla Ltd rose 0.7%, Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd 0.5%, and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd 0.4%.

डॉलर की मजबूती से आज रुपये की शुरुआत भारी गिरावट के साथ हुई है। डॉलर के मुकाबले रुपया आज 18 पैसे टूटकर 68.00 के स्तर पर खुला। आज 24 जून के बाद रुपये सबसे कमजोर स्तर पर खुला है। वहीं डॉलर के मुकाबले रुपया कल 13 पैसे की मजबूती के साथ 67.82 के स्तर पर बंद हुआ था।

Sensex tanks 554 points as Trump's win, Modi's surgical strike on black money rattle investors 
Indian stocks and the rupee fell on Wednesday as Republican Donald Trump stunned the world on Tuesday by defeating heavily favoured Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House, ending eight years of Democratic rule and sending the United States on a new, uncertain path.

Domestic sentiment was also hit due to uncertainty sparked by the country's move to withdraw larger banknotes from circulation.  

At 1.20 p.m., the 30-share BSE index Sensex was down 554.12 points or 2,01 per cent at 27,037.02 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was down 182.85 points or 2.14 per cent at 8,360.70.  

Among BSE sectoral indices, realty index plunged the most by 13.76 per cent, consumer durables 7.08 per cent, infrastructure 4.36 per cent and auto 4.28 per cent.  

Major Sensex losers were Adani Ports (-6.34%), Hero MotoCorp (-6.31%), ICICI Bank (-5.37%), TCS (-4.81%) and Maruti (-4.35%).  

Early trade  

The Sensex opened sharply lower at 26,251.38 points and moved further down within seconds to touch a low of 25,902.45 points — down 1,689 points from its previous close — with all 30 stocks from the benchmark index trading deep in the red.  

However, buying at lower levels helped the Sensex to recover some lost ground in the afternoon trade.  

The overall investors’ wealth, measured in terms of valuation of all listed stocks, was down by nearly Rs. 6 lakh crore in early morning trade from nearly Rs. 111.44 lakh crore at the end of yesterday’s trade.

At 9:35 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 27,563 up 104 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,526 up 28 points. The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.35% at 12,959 whereas BSE Small-cap Index is trading up 0.71% at 13,123.
          Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto, Dr Reddy's and Asian Paints are among the gainers, whereas ITC, HDFC, Adani Ports, L&T, HDFC Bank and M&M are losing sheen on NSE. Some buying activity is seen in auto, industrial, realty, consumer durables and IT sectors, while FMCG is showing weakness on BSE.

        The INDIA VIX is down 0.51% at 16.4225. Out of 1,861 stocks traded on the NSE, 389 declined, 1,064 advanced and 408 remained unchanged today. A total of 18 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while three stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

10.20am: Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd falls 5% to Rs4,271.95 after the company said its net profit for the September quarter fell 31.7% to Rs37.92 crore against Rs55.54 crore a year ago.  

10.10am: IIFL Holdings Ltd rises 5% to Rs296.85 after the company said its September quarter rose 31% from a year ago to Rs183 crore.  

10.00am: ITC Ltd rises 1.4% to Rs242.20 after the company said its second-quarter profit rose 10.5% from a year earlier largely on account of an increase in operating profit from its cigarette business. Net profit rose to Rs2,500 crore in the three months ended 30 September from Rs2,262.5 crore a year ago, the company said on Thursday.

Just Dial Q2 profit seen down 30% on operational pressure

India's local search engine Just Dial is expected to report a 30 percent degrowth in second quarter profit at Rs 32.5 crore on weak operational performance quarter-on-quarter, according to analysts polled by CNBC-TV18.  

Revenue during the quarter is seen rising 8.9 percent to Rs 186.5 crore from Rs 171.3 crore on sequential basis.  

Operating profit may fall 20.7 percent quarter-on-quarter to Rs 31.5 crore and margin may contract 630 basis points to 16.9 percent in Q2. The company increased its sales force to drive sales growth and hence margin may see a further correction QoQ. Q1 margin was at 25.06 percent.  

Core business growth is expected to remain tepid as information becomes increasingly commoditised.  

JD Omni sales were stopped during Q2. JD Omni is a billing and inventory management system and is basically B2B.

Indian equities continued to consolidate, as traders remained reluctant to rollover positions amid a slew of corporate earnings announcements this week.  

The Nifty 50 index on Monday, gained 0.2 percent to close just above the 8,700-mark. Its futures across all active contracts added 1.6 percent, indicating build-up of fresh long positions. Traders so far have rolled over 27 percent of their positions onto the next month, which is lower than the previous three-month average of 31 percent with three more trading sessions left to go for the expiration of October contracts. The Nifty Bank index gained only 0.5 percent but its futures saw higher amount of addition in open interest of 6 percent.  

Foreign institutional investors (FII) bought index futures worth Rs 155 crore on a net basis. The India Volatility Index (or VIX) gained 3.6 percent to close at 14.33. The Nifty 8,750 call saw an addition of 4.5 lakh shares whereas the 8,700 put saw writing of 5.4 lakh shares. The maximum open interest remains with the 9,000 call and 8,600 put. FIIs bought 12,038 index call contracts against 1,518 index put contracts on net basis.

Indian shares edge higher; ITC gain
India's benchmark BSE index gains 0.74 percent, while the broader NSE index is up 0.62 percent. * Blue-ship stocks leading the gains with ITC Ltd up 1.7 percent on value-buying after falling 6.2 percent in the previous session. Among other heavyweights, Reliance Industries Ltd is up 1.2 percent while State Bank of India gains 1.3 percent.
India's Bajaj Hindusthan shares
Shares in Bajaj Hindusthan Ltd gain 10 percent after the company said on Monday that it repaid foreign currency convertible bonds aggregating to $17.7 million
RBI to banks
The Reserve Bank of India today directed all banks and financial institutions to provide information and documents sought by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to unearth black money. All the banks and financial institutions (FIs) are advised to ensure that information/documents required by the SIT are made available as and when required," the Reserve Bank said in a notification
L&T Stock Price
On June 24, 2014,Larsen and Toubro was quoting at Rs 1675.50, up Rs 21.85, or 1.32 percent. The 52-week high of the share was Rs 1774.70 and the 52-week low was Rs 678.10.
Indian Rupee Higher Today
The Indian rupee opened higher by 8 paise at 60.12 per dollar versus 60.20 Monday. Euro continues to remain under pressure, trading below the 1.36 mark.

Evening Updates Of Equity Market Tips

Market Wrap
Indian markets broke out of narrow range and plunged sharply in the afternoon trade following by the basket selling in stocks triggered by tension in Iraq. All sectoral indices were ended in red except Pharma and Media sector. 
Sensex dropped by 275 pts to 25246 and Nifty went down by 73 pts to 7558. European markets traded up.

Indian shares fall for second day
Indian shares fell for a second straight session on Thursday, as oil stocks such as Oil and Natural Gas Corp slumped on worries that higher gas pricing may be allowed only for incremental output while violence in Iraq continued to weigh.
Indian rupee ends stronger 
The Indian rupee strengthened on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve indicated interest rates are likely to remain lower for some more time, pushing the dollar sharply lower, but high global crude oil prices checked gains in the local currency.
Rupee ends at 60.08/09 per dlr vs 60.39/40 on Wednesday
Stock On IT
Information technology stocks had a good outing. With stocks from realty, automobile and healthcare sectors too bouncing back from their lows, the market staged a smart recovery in the final hour, but still ended the day on a negative note. Rail related stocks were in demand amid speculation the government will soon allow FDI in railways. Capital goods, power and metal stocks closed weak. FMCG stocks ended on a mixed note.

Shares of ONGC was down 5% at Rs423 on reports that company may increase its stake in Cairn India's Rajasthan oil fields.The stock has hit a high of Rs440 and a low of Rs421

Shares of Railway stocks surged after Nirmala Sitharaman, commerce and industry minister reportedly said that the country needs foreign direct investment (FDI) for expansion of railway network.
