India's Benchmark Nifty is opening 100 points gap down today. FII's have been heavy sellers in both cash and F&O segment. This is the result of Dollar outflows from the country because of the increased probability of a December Rate hike by the US FED. The chances of December rate hike has increased as confirmed by the upside breakout in the 3 month US treasury yield. Similar phenomena occurred during FED's last rate hike in Nov-Dec 2015, where Nifty fell by 500 points.

The big support for Nifty stands at 8076, the panic low of last week when the US presidential election results were announced. Banking stocks continue to outperform their peers globally which makes 19500 a major support for Bank Nifty and an important resistance at 20300.

Nifty Futures is expected to open at 8235 as per SGX Nifty at 8:30 am IST, which is 100 points below its previous close of 8335.

The final US presidential debate came to a close with Trump labelling Hillary as ‘a nasty woman’ while she was describing her plan to raise taxes on the wealthy to fund Social Security. The jury is still out on how fortunes could turn in this election. The markets will have to focus on earnings and global developments. The Indian banking system has been hit by cyber-attacks, which have been on a rise worldwide. Over 3 million debit cards have reportedly been compromised.

Banking stocks could see some weakness initially. Reliance will be in focus as it is set to report yet another quarter of strong performance in its core business of refining and petrochemicals. Meanwhile, participation from small towns has resulted in Equity mutual funds adding over 1.5 million investor accounts in the first half of this fiscal.

Another setback in sentiment could take place as the GST Council failed to arrive at a final tax structure.

After a 2 week consolidation most equity markets seem poised for an up move as commodities both oil & base metals are seeing huge traction on the upside. Canada, Brazil & Russia are the main markets where indices are touching new highs regularly which could see the spill over lead to other indices. The earnings calendar will see large number of companies declare results in the next week which will see volatility rise as we also have derivative contract expiry next Thursday.

IndusInd Bank Q2 PAT seen up 6% to Rs 701 cr

We expect strong loan/deposit growth of 29 percent/31 percent Y-o-Y in 2Q FY17. Continuation of positive growth trend in the CV/CFD segment would remain a key factor to monitor. Overall, NIM is likely to remain largely stable Q-o-Q at 3.8-3.9 percent, led by lower cost of funds and an increase in the share of high-yielding loans.

We expect non-interest income growth to be strong at 31 percent. Opex growth would remain high at 30 percent + Y-o-Y, led by continued investments in branches, people and technology. Strong PPP growth (+30 percent Y-o-Y) would keep earnings growth strong at 25 percent + YoY, despite factoring in 50 percent + Y-o-Y increase in provisions. IIB trades at 2.9x FY18E BV and 17.4x FY18E EPS, with best-in-class RoA of 2 percent and RoE of 17-18 percent. Delay in CV cycle revival and sharp moderation in fees remain the key risks to our estimates.

Gold futures on Friday stretched their losing streak to a sixth straight session and posted a roughly 5% loss for the week—the largest such loss in about 3 years. Prices were volatile Friday, giving up early gains as traders looked to the latest monthly U.S. employment data for clues on the likelihood of a U.S. interest-rate increase before the end of the year. December gold GCZ6, +0.45% fell $1.10, or 0.1%, for the session to settle at $1,251.90 an ounce after tapping a high of $1,267.60. Prices held ground at their lowest level since early June. Prices lost about 5% for the week, according to FactSet data. That was the largest one-week decline since mid-September 2013. Thursday’s finish pushed prices below their 200-day moving average, a move which could signal further declines.

Gold had initially extended an earlier advance after government data showed the U.S. economy created 156,000 new jobs in September. That showed another solid gain in employment, but the figure came in below the 172,000 job gain expected by economists polled by MarketWatch. But prices for the metal took a sharp turn lower in late morning trading, as some analysts and traders decided that the figures don’t rule out a rate hike before year’s end. The ICE U.S. Dollar Index DXY, -0.22% seesawed between losses and gains Friday, but was trading about 1.3% higher for the week.

Gold’s more volatile sister metal, silver, saw much larger losses this week. December silver SIZ6, +1.33% fell 3.5 cents, or 0.2%, to $17.38 an ounce Friday, ending about 9.6% lower for the week. December copper HGZ6, +0.53% was up less than a cent at $2.164 a pound, finishing about 2.1% lower on the week. January platinum PLF7, +0.65% fell $3.70, or 0.4%, to $962.60 an ounce, to lose 7% for the week, while December palladium PAZ6, +0.53% added $1.25, or 0.2%, to $667.40 an ounce, but still lost 7.5% for the week.

Stock Updates -- Nifty starts October Series above 8600; Sensex, Midcap Volatile

"Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) constitution under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, notified," the finance ministry said. The MPC, in which three members are from the RBI and three others from the government, will target to keep inflation at 4 per cent with an upper and lower tolerance level of 2 per cent. The government, last week, had named three academics to join RBI Governor Urjit Patel, his deputy in charge of monetary policy R Gandhi and central bank executive director Michael Patra on the MPC.

9:45 am Upcoming: Bangalore-based retailer Shankara BuildPro, which is into home improvement and building products, has filed for an initial public offering to raise about Rs 450 crore. According to market sources, the company has filed the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with the market watchdog Sebi today and proposes to mop up between Rs 400 crore and Rs 450 crore through the sale, which will involve promoters and investors diluting their stakes to the tune of 35 percent. The proposed IPO will enable private equity firm Fairwinds, which had pumped in close to Rs 120 crore in 2011, to exit Shankara, the sources told PTI today.

9:35 am China data: China's factory sector struggled to gain speed in September while Japanese inflation went backwards in August despite the best efforts of policymakers, underscoring the limits of stimulus in reviving world growth. Friday's unflattering figures bookmarked a week in which the IMF warned it would likely downgrade forecasts for the US economy, and the World Trade Organization slashed its outlook for global trade flows. That was unwelcome news for markets spooked by troubles at Deutsche Bank, whose US shares took a hammering on reports some hedge funds had reduced financial exposure to Germany's largest lender.

Commodity Updates 15-Sep-2016

Gold steady as equities waver; Fed meeting awaited

Gold prices slipped on Thursday after breaking a five-day losing streak in the previous session, as the dollar rose slightly and uncertain equity markets boosted the metal’s safe-haven appeal ahead of the US Federal Reserve meeting next week.

While the market is predicting relatively low probability for September hike, they now seem to be more convinced that a December hike is highly probable,” said NAB analyst Vyanne Lai. “The market has been characterised by high volatility than few weeks before.

Spot gold had slipped 0.3 per cent to $1,318.96 an ounce by 0730 GMT, and US gold futures were down 0.3 percent at $1,322.60 an ounce. While US interest rate futures indicate that expectations of an actual rate increase next week remain low, the dollar could get a lift from anything in the Fed’s statement that hints at a hike this year.

Gold is highly sensitive to rising rates, which lift the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as bullion, while boosting the dollar, in which it is priced.
