Stock Market Opening News :- The SGX Nifty, trading 2.50 points at 7027 on
Thursday at 7:36 AM indicates a flat to marginally positive opening for the
50-share Nifty. Asian markets were mixed with Nikkei marginally up and Hang
Seng trading in the negative. US stocks closed higher as some stabilization in
oil prices offset declines in financials to help stocks recover from an
intra-day decline of more than 1.5 percent. The Dow Jones reclaimed a
266-point drop - its largest recovery of losses by points since 2008 - and then
went on to close up 53 points. European equities closed lower as commodity
stocks took a sharp tumble, while fresh earnings failed to elevate investor
sentiment. With further decline in metal prices, Glencore and Anglo American
closed over 10 and 9.5 percent lower, respectively. Among currencies, Sterling
tumbled to a seven-year low on heightened fears of a possible British exit from
the European Union, while the safe-haven yen gained broadly. In commodities,
crude prices gained as strong US gasoline demand offset worries over record
high crude stockpiles
