Today Equity Market Slips into the Red after a Firm Start

Asian stocks dropped, snapping a six-day advance and paring the regional benchmark index’s biggest weekly gain since July, as investors await the monthly American jobs report.

The S&P BSE Sensex was down 6.58 points or 0.03% to 18,973.18. The index jumped 126.10 points at the day's high of 19,105.96 in early trade. The index fell 8.64 points at the day's low of 18,971.12 in early trade. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was positive. On BSE, 517 shares rose and 456 shares fell. A total of 59 shares were unchanged. 

The CNX Nifty was down 3.60 points or 0.06% to 5,589.35. The index hit a high of 5,624.20 in intraday trade. The index hit a low of 5,578.70 in intraday trade. Among the 30-share Sensex pack, 15 stocks rose and rest of them fell. ICICI Bank (up 2.49%), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (up 1.81%) and ONGC (up 1.93%), rose.
