BSE Sensex fell on Friday to mark its first weekly fall in four, as blue-chips such as State Bank of India (SBI) declined after foreign investors sold shares for a fourth consecutive session, while caution was also seen ahead of GDP data and the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) policy review.
State Bank of India fell 2.7 percent while ICICI Bank fell 2 percent.
The benchmark BSE index provisionally closed 0.07 percent lower at 24,217.34 points, while the broader NSE index ended 0.08 percent down at 7,229.95 points.
Stock news: Shares of Indian Oil Corporation were up nearly 1.86% at Rs 361 on the BSE after posting 40% rise in net profit to Rs. 7019 crore for the year ended March 31, 2014 as compared to Rs. 5005 crore for the year ended March 31, 2013. Tata Motors was down 1.1% after reporting a consolidated net profit of Rs 3,918 crore for the reporting quarter, a drop of 0.68% from Rs 3,945 crore in the same quarter last year.

The S&P BSE Sensex which rose over 100 points in intraday trade pared most of its morning gains and was trading narrow band on Friday.
          The 50-share Nifty index also came off from its intraday highs but was trading near its crucial psychological support level of 7250, supported by gains in capital goods, realty, oil & gas and metal stocks.
         The 50-share index was at 7,249.20, up 13 points or 0.20 per cent. It touched a high of 7,272.50 and a low of 7,118.45 in trade today.
          The S&P BSE Sensex was at 24,269.14, up 35 points or 0.15 per cent. It touched a high of 24,353.59 and a low of 24,167.94 in trade today.

Automobile major reported a net profit of Rs 3,920 crore during Jan-March quarter, down 0.3 per cent, against a net profit of Rs 3,931 crore, in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.
Bharti Airtel Ltd
Bharti Airtel announced its offering of 3G services to customers in Punjab through an intra-circle roaming agreement with Idea Cellular. This comes after Idea launched its high speed services in the circle on its own spectrum.
Cipla Ltd
Drugmaker Cipla Ltd reported a 3 percent drop in fourth-quarter net profit, slightly below analysts' estimates due to higher raw material and employee expenses.
Hindalco Industries Ltd
Leading metals producer Hindalco Industries today reported a 48.51 per cent decline in standalone net profit to Rs 248.15 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 31, mainly due to exceptional items.
Reliance Industries Ltd
In the biggest ever deal in the Indian media sector, Reliance Industries Ltd will acquire control in Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd, including its subsidiary TV18 Broadcast Ltd, for Rs 4,000 crore.

Indian Equity Market Strategy News For Update



Equity Market
The broader indices ended in red; the BSE Mid cap index was down by 0.34% and Small cap index was down by 0.48%. (Provisional)
On the BSE Sectoral front, Health Care up by 0.02% was the only gainer while, IT down by 3.44%, TECK down by 2.92% , India Infrastructure Index down by 1.67%, Oil & Gas down by 1.64% and Capital Goods down by 1.49%, were the losers in the space. (Provisional)
India VIX, a gauge for markets short term expectation lost 4.94% at 16.69 from its previous close of 17.55 on Wednesday. (Provisional)
The CNX Nifty lost 82.95 points or 1.13% to settle at 7,246.70. The index touched high and low of 7,325.40 and 7,224.40 respectively. Out of 50 stocks in Nifty, 14 stocks ended in the green and 36 in red.
Tate & Lyle sales and profits down slightly
Food ingredients group Tate & Lyle said today that sales for the year to end-March were £3.147bn (2013: £3.256bn), 3% lower than the prior year, with adjusted profit before tax 2% lower at £322m (2013: £327m).
Sales in Speciality Food Ingredients were up 4% (4% in constant currency) to £983 million (2013 – £947 million) and 6% lower in Bulk Ingredients (6% in constant currency) at £2,164 million.

Bharti Airtel spurts 1.4% on BSE
Bharti Airtel was the top gainer on the BSE in morning trade on Thursday. At 11.05 am it held gains of 1.39 per cent to trade at 346.50. The stock had closed the previous session at 341.75.
Tata Power charged up 1.08 per cent to quote at 103.40 as against its previous close of 102.30.
HDFC traded up 0.90 per cent at 910.90. The stock had finished last evening’s session at 902.75.
M&M drove up 0.77 per cent to quote at 1,171.25. The stock had ended the previous session at 1,162.35.
GAIL (India) sailed up 0.71 per cent at 374.30 as against 371.65 at close on Wednesday.
Infosys drops 7%; focus once again on high attrition rate
The Infosys stock has nosedived, falling more than seven per cent in trade so far, and expectedly so, given the resignation of yet another high-profile senior management personnel and board member - BG Srinivas.
          With the recovery of cyclical stocks, the IT pack has already been an underperformer over the past six months. Infosys is further challenged by a slower-than-industry growth rate for three years now.
The attrition rates for the company, at more than 18 per cent, is among the highest in the industry.
